Challenge
The process of installing sensors was a time-consuming manual activity, which reduced the potential number of installs per day and led to paying extra labor hours to technicians for maintenance. This was impacting SmartSense's reputation as a global leader.
SmartSense’s initial goal was to enhance customer satisfaction results through the improvement of its overall operational processes efficiency.
Solution
Our team designed and developed a custom Mobile App from scratch that allows field technicians to scan sensors, designating and associating hardware devices to facilitate locations in real time. This solution simplifies and merges previous operations.
The new solution saves time, which translates into cost savings and productivity improvement. The App also provides maintenance alerts which leads to a quality of service enhancement, boosting the company's reputation.
Our team’s technical expertise in Mobile App development combined with our commitment to the customer's business needs opened the doors to take on more and more responsibility within their growth strategy.
Milestones
June 2019
Discovery phase started
KAIZEN started a Product Development project from scratch with the proof concept of a “Sensor Scan” Mobile Application, aimed at increasing operational efficiency and customer satisfaction results.
July 2019
“Sensor Scan” first prototype was released
Our team designed the first prototype incorporating scanner and back-end data transmission. A job order for a supermarket chain served as a testing ground, which allowed our team to identify improvements and refine the product’s quality.
August 2019
Design improvement
Based on the first prototype’s success, our UI/UX Design team focused on gathering feedback from field operators to iterate on the App design, while two more software engineers joined the Mobile Application team.
January 2020
KAIZEN’s team growth
After our team visited SmartSense headquarters in Boston, we agreed to expand our team bringing a total of four talents.
August 2020
The “Sensor Scan” App is released to production
Thanks to the positive feedback of the prototype designed by our UI/UX team, the application went into production being entirely developed by KAIZEN. The implementation of this app reduced by 50% the time on technicians visits.
September 2020
Taking on new challenges
The role of Scrum Master was given to a KAIZEN’s team member giving him the responsibility of coordinating the project teams across both companies.
October 2021
Business meeting in Boston
First commercial visit of our team after the pandemic, which focused on establishing a strategy to give priority to all mobile developments first.
